Krishna wants Prabhupada to return to India

In 1966 Srila Prabhupada established ISKCON in New York to spread the teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura. He concentrated on expanding the preaching work in the West by printing books and establishing temples.

On May 31, 1967, he suffered a stroke and decided to return to Vrindavana to recuperate. While recovering, he desired to establish a place in Vrindavana for his foreign disciples to be trained. He planned to call it the American House; sometimes he called it the Indian-American House.

Gradually Prabhupada’s health improved. He returned to America in December, 1967 to continue the expansion of Krishna consciousness. Then in 1970, he acquired the Los Angeles temple and installed the Deities of Sri Sri Rukmini Dvarakadisa. The Los Angeles temple was ISKCON’s first real temple and its world headquarters. Prabhupada planned to remain in America and train his disciples, but Krishna’s plan was different. Krishna wanted him to return to India.
