Prabhupada's main projects in India

Sravanananda Dasa: He didn't express any further desires for Nellore. In fact, later I found a letter. I worked in the Archives for some years until recently. I found some letters from Ekanatha - he helped me get and search for many of the letters.

Prabhupada had said at that time he wasn't that concerned about Madras - not at that time. His biggest concerns were establishing Bombay, Mayapur, Vrindavana. Hyderabad was also a big project. I don't know if that was in Prabhupada's original plan or Mahamsa had just gotten good land from G. Pulla Reddy, right in the Police Station Road. It was a primary spot and that got added to the plan later. But I know Prabhupada had his big concerns of getting things done within a certain time period. So Madras wasn't… right at that time, it was put on hold. Prabhupada set his priorities for money and what he wanted to get accomplished at that time.

I got the letter - basically Prabhupada made some comments about South India: was too full of casteism, impersonalism and demigod worship. So it could be put on hold. It is a tougher preaching environment because of historical sampradayas, birth, certain brahminical caste things, born into certain brahminical caste: Iyer, Iyengar and other castes. So it was a tough environment for us. We did have a lot of North Indians that supported us, but we couldn't really crack through… We had a few Tamil devotees who had joined, but in general, it was a tough preaching environment.

So Prabhupada had his priorities and now by the grace of Krishna and Prabhupada, we have some very nice, active preaching in South India which would be very pleasing to Srila Prabhupada.
